Antique French Wooden Plumbers Bobbins - No2
C1880's
A string of late 19th-century plumber's bobbins, often called "plumber's beads" or "dollies". Hand-turned from a beautifully smooth, dense country hardwood, this set features seven individual bobbins strung onto their historic, heavy twine rope.
Originally used as a specialised trade tool, plumbers would pull these graduated wooden bobbins through soft lead pipes to smoothly expand out dents and kinks from the inside. Today, this striking piece makes a wonderful rustic display.
